Serenity now! Serenity NOW!

There is no better time to shout these calming words. In what is another comic renumbering event Senior Editor Tom Brevoort calls it a “…major realignment of all our top books and all our top talent…” Marvel insists Marvel NOW is not a reboot. Whether we are excited or disheartened by this news there is one thing we can look forward to: New art! As part of the Marvel NOW Skottie Young has whipped up some variant covers to entice and please the eye. Every cover tells its own story vividly and with panache! Feast your eyes on THIS!

Speaking of great art, I’d like to take some time to highlight one of my favorite artists. With the Image Comics relaunch/release of PROPHET I have been getting a good dose of the Sci-Fi I crave. Along with a world spanning saga the pages of PROPHET also hold some of the best art I have seen in years. Meet Giannis Milonogiannis. I do not know much about him aside that he lives in Greece and has some of the finest lines I have ever set my eyes on. Multiversity Comics has an interview with him as part of the Artist August promotion, which has amazing interviews with top talent! Giannis has his comic Old City Blues available for free online if you’d like to get a taste of his amazing work. Giannis has joined the ranks of Image Comics incredible hoard of artist. This weekend Image made 20 of their new #1s available for FREE through Comixology! Jump over there and download these bad boys! If you like any of them you can purchase them through Legacy Comics digital shop or have one of our lovely shop workers add them to your pull box.

Looking for something more local? Keep an eye on http://bullmoosethecomic.com/  Brothers Cody and Lance Schibi are from Austin, TX and are working on putting Bullmoose into your hands soon. Cody’s style reminds me of Frank Quietly and Nick Pitarra, loose yet detailed. They will attend Wizard World Austin this year and I look forward to meeting them.

As a parting note I would like to say thanks to the King. Today would have been Jack Kirby’s 95 birthday and the comic world is richer for the time he gave to it. Far more eloquent people have spoken and written about him and I would like to show you one my favorites written by Ivan Brandon. To the man who help create Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk and even fought in World War II, thanks Jack!

If you would like to give back to this giant and his legacy check out the Hero Initiative, the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need, and for more art check out #WakeUpandDraw (video).
